Victims of domestic violence can be any gender, though women are more frequently victimized.  Domestic violence happens in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships.  Victims can be anyone, regardless of financial status, education, racial or ethnic background, or age.

Domestic violence harms immediate victims, children who witness the violence, as well as other friends and family members.
