- Firearms were the most common weapon used in domestic violence homicides. Between January 1, 1997 and June 30, 2006, domestic violence abusers used firearms to kill 56% of domestic violence homicide victims.

Data from Costs of Intimate Partner Violence Against Women in the United States, 2003 (PDF) - The majority (73%) of family violence victims are female. Females were 84% of spousal abuse victims and 86% of abuse victims at the hands of a boyfriend.
