Effective Medical Advocacy
Description:
This workshop uses the CSAP service standards for Medical Advocacy as a basis for discussion of effective victim advocacy in a medical setting. Understanding both the standards and the medical environment will be emphasized. Tips for communicating with medical professionals will be provided, including important medical professionals to identify as allies.

Presenter:
Dusty Olson holds a Master’s degree in Psychology, with a specialization in Interpersonal Violence from San Diego State University. Dusty has worked in the field of interpersonal violence for the past twelve years. Currently, she is the Advocacy Coordinator for the Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse, where she provides direct client services and supports the agency’s staff and volunteer advocates in their caseload of over 1000 sexual assault and abuse victims per year. Dusty has been certified as a national trainer by the Federal Law Enforcement Training. Dusty has presented workshops on the issues of sexual assault and child abuse at state and national conferences.
